Controller

CONTROLLER
The Controller is a member of Hecla Nevada's Senior Management Team, responsible for the mine's Accounting, Cash Management, Dore Tracking and Shipping, and Supply Chain Management (Procurement and Warehousing). Manage functions of the monthly financial reporting and close process, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with GAAP, company policies, procedures, systems of internal controls and regulatory compliance. The position coordinates the preparation and compilation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
Supervise all phases of the accounting cycle (revenues, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, cost reporting, financial statements, budgeting and forecasting).
Manage monthly closing processes for the site by coordinating, preparing and submitting financial statements to the Corporate Accounting Department, General Manager and others for review and analysis of monthly sites production and financial results.
Preparing actual vs. budget production results and cost reports and analysis for distribution to members of management
Compile complex annual budget operational and capital cost data for site by working with mine site managers and department heads on production and cost assumptions.
Coordinate preparation of site quarterly forecasts in a similar manner as the budgeting process for submission and review by General Manager, Mine Site Managers and corporate personnel.
Provide cash management for the mine including revenue receipts, accounts payable and payroll disbursements and remittances of excess cash to the Corporate treasury.
Coordinate internal and external audit visits, responsible for compliance and results of financial and internal controls audits.
Coordinate dore tracking and shipping and the mine's forecasted production. Calculates and documents appropriate royalty payments to mining interest stakeholders.
Responsible for economic evaluation of various projects and mine site operations including Life of Mine economics.
Administer and track capital spending approval process through use of Hecla's AFE Guidelines. Report on and monitor capital spending, ensuring spending is in line with budget and approved AFE limits.
Supervision of warehousing, procurement and contracts administration.
Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
Periodically travels to and maintains a presence at the Winnemucca office and all operating sites of the Company, as needed, to build and maintain good working relationships, to work with other management and supervisory personnel and maintain knowledge of the activities at each site.
Minimum qualifications include:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred
5 years of experience in financial reporting and knowledge of accounting systems and practices.
Knowledge of the mining industry strongly preferred.
Excellent computer skills in spreadsheet and presentation applications.
IFS or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) software experience a plus.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
